Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins

Title: Her Royal Highness
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance

Is there any group of people who live their lives more steeped in tradition than the royal families? I can think of few others. This book (along with its companion book, The Royals) shows just what might happen as the rules passed down which govern their lives are forced to confront modern understandings - for example, what happens when the princess not only falls in love with a commoner, but one who also happens to be another girl?

This book is a delightful twist of a common premise: what happens when if, while trying to have a normal college experience, you just happen to be assigned a princess as a roommate, become instant enemies, are thrown together in multiple ways, and just happen fall in love with that princess along the way? And, perhaps even more importantly, what happens when her family - and the public! - find out all about it?

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

Title: The Bodyguard
Author: Katherine Center

Hannah Brooks is very career oriented. When her boyfriend breaks up with her days after her mom dies, and she gets taken off an important job, she is willing to do just about anything to show her boss how ready she is to be back being an Executive Protection Agent. Anything except pretend to be the girlfriend of A-list actor Jack Stapleton while he visits his family in Texas.

Of course, no one will believe that Hannah is his girlfriend when he is linked to women like Kennedy Monroe, his perfect, beautiful costar. In fact, even Jack thinks she is the cleaning lady at first. Over time, the line between pretend and real starts to blur. There is no way Jack could feel anything for her. It’s all acting, right?

Light and breezy, The Bodyguard by Katherine Center belongs in beach bags and travel totes as a fun summer read.

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

Title: The Duke and I

Author: Julia Quinn

Genre: Historical Romance

If you have already enjoyed the Netflix series, Bridgerton, then this story will sound very familiar - but not exactly the same. This book is the first in the Bridgertons series.

The Duke is back in London after traveling abroad just in time to join the courting season in full bloom. Daphne is single and being pressured to find a husband. They find each other and start a scheme to keep unacceptable would-be mates from hurling themselves at the pair and in the process come to appreciate each other. Gossip, scandals, too much drink, and pistols at dawn make for a lively tale.

If you enjoy a good Regency romance, give this book a whirl.

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

Title: Spoiler Alert

Author: Olivia Dade

Genre: Romance

Based on a series of fantasy books, the series "Gods of the Gates" is finally coming to an end. Actor Marcus Castor-Rupp is ready to move on, but after years of playing the affectionate dumb actor will he be able to be himself, or will he need to keep playing the smiling pretty boy? The place he feels most comfortable is in the world of fan fiction, where he is able to express his opinions about his show character under the name, Book!AeneasWouldNever (BAWN), away from the watchful eye of show executives.

April Whittier is ready to move on from a fast paced consulting job, to a less paying but better civil service job testing field sites for soil contamination. If there’s something she loves more than finding out what’s beneath the soil, it’s the world of fan-fiction around "God of the Gates", the books, the show, and the mythology she loves.

As UnapologeticLaviniaStan, April rules the fan forums, but her best online friend is Book!AeneasWouldNever. With her new job, April is ready to be her true self, and hopefully meet up with her online friends, and maybe start something with BAWN.

When April posts her Lavinia cosplay picture online she gathers a lot of attention, not all positive. Marcus sees the picture, and asks her out, thinking a lucky fan will get the date of a lifetime. What he doesn’t expect is that April is UnapologeticLaviniaStan, the woman he feels the most connected to online. Not wanting to out himself as BAWN, he quickly shuts down his fan account, and hopes to connect to April in real life. Of course, it’s hard to not admit how he knows so much about April, and the longer he hides who he really is, the harder it is to tell her.

A fan fiction writers dream, Spoiler Alert is for anyone who has ever wondered, what would it be like for my favorite actor to fall in love with me, just as I am? Fans of romance will appreciate the steamy scenes between the characters, and if you’ve ever complained about how a TV or movie series ended, you will love the way the characters write their own versions of the story.

Stephanie Meyer (Twilight series) has pulled an E.L. James and reproduced her most popular story from the male point-of-view. In Midnight Sun, the meeting of Bella is told from Edward's perspective and thus fleshes out more of his history and feelings. It is long and doesn't have as many surprises if you're already familiar with their love story, but it does add enough new material that if you are a fan of these sun-crossed lovers then you will appreciate the added nuances to their complicated romance.

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Title: Dash and Lily's Book of Dares

Author: Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Holiday

In this holiday meet-cute by authors David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, pessimistic, Christmas curmudgeon Dash (short for Dashiel) and holiday hype-queen Lily meet through a "book of dares" she strategically places in the Salinger section of the Strand bookstore in New York. With the help of various extended family members, Dash and Lily exchange their book of dares, each time adding a new entry, and getting to know each other only through their words, and their respective holiday thoughts, anxieties and dreams.

With a couple of surprise turns, as narrated in Levithan and Cohn's typical camp and melodrama style, this book is sure to bring a smile, even to the Dashiels of the world. Witty, smart, and fun, this Rudolph romp was recently turned into a Netflix miniseries, and also possesses two sequels, The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily and Mind the Gap, Dash & Lily, which all provide hours of NYC holiday cheer, enchantment, and humor for the hearthside reader- even if, like most New Yorkers (except for Lily's eccentric great-aunt) we Milwaukeeans must instead settle for a space heater and hot chocolate as we revel in the trials, tears, and triumphs of first love in an urban wonderland. But a boy can dream- and Dash and Lily's adventures give much to dream about.
